One Creation One Body One Christ
Do you have World Environment Day activities and community stories you would like to share with the global Lutheran community?
I have been contacted by LCANZ’s Elsa Matthias who has served on the Global Young Reformer Network for the last few years. For the last month, the Asian region of Global Young Reformers have been developing a regional project idea (see attached poster). The general idea is that people from across the Asian region “come together” or do an activity at about the same time (3-5 June). Is your school and/or local congregation doing an environmental activity around that time? If so, would you be interested in sharing photos and stories?
This June 5th is World Environment Day. So for the weekend prior (3-4 June), they are encouraging churches in Australia (and the Asian region in general) to get together and complete an environmental themed activity such as:
- planting plants
- planting trees
- cleaning up rubbish
- church barbecue out in nature
- church walk with an emphasis on reducing use of cars for that day
- starting a recycling program in the church
- etc dependant on what works for their particular congregation.
In addition, they request photos of these events to be sent to the LCANZ for use in their video that they will present at the Lutheran World Federation preassembly in Poland later this year.
Your school/ECS is welcome to send your environmental activity photos and story to Elsa at elsa.matthias@lca.org.au.
The youth of the Asian region are also preparing a “creation care” and “environmental care” themed devotional, which will be shared in advance of the weekend. This will provide a similar devotional/ theme that can be used for a bible study/ youth group and help promote the care that we as Lutherans have for our world.
The theme/ slogan for this event is: One Creation One Body One Christ
Please do not hesitate to contact Elsa if you have any further questions. elsa.matthias@lca.org.au
