Shrove Tuesday
Tuesday 13th February we celebrated the beginning of the Lenten Season with Shrove Tuesday. Members of Bethlehem Church cooked over 500 pancakes for our students. It was a great opportunity to build connections with the congregation.
'Play is the Way'
Staff have started training for ‘Play is the Way’. This program is a social and emotional learning (SEL) methodology using physically interactive games and activities that help from a pathway to empathy.
Empathy is such an important ability for all people to have. It helps us to understand and to relate to people from all walks of life. Communication, understanding and teamwork are all improved as a result of empathy. Our school is excited about this program and have taken the term to introduce each concept in preparation for rollout of the program in Term Two. The key concepts are:
- Treat others as you would like them to treat you
- Have reasons for the things you say and do
- It takes great strength to be sensible
- Pursue your personal best no matter who you work with
- Be brave—participate to progress.
We’re looking forward to developing, improving and entrenching the personal and social capabilities of our students.
K-2 Easter Hat Parade
On Tuesday 26 March we had our K-2 Easter Hat Parade. The school Chapel was full of creative and colourful hats and it was encouraging to see approximately 150 parents, grandparents and friends come along to celebrate. There were bird’s nests, pom-poms, flowers, bunny ears, lights and more. We even had a visit from the Easter Bunny! Any opportunity to welcome families on site, is definitely an opportunity worth taking.
