Research Opportunity
Project: School Refusal and Autism; A ‘First-Response’ pilot.
School refusal disproportionately impacts neurodiverse students yet there is a scarcity of research into how school-based supports may help to prevent the development of chronic forms of school refusal, in particular, supports that focus on neurodiversity.
This project builds on the experiences of parents of autistic children and teachers in supporting autistic students who school refuse. The current stage explores the feasibility of a teacher-implemented supports package in primary school settings. This will be done during professional learning workshops and small-scale implementation.
