TIME IS A GIFT
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3:1
The concept of time is difficult to fathom for a people who have lived only in the comfort of the Solar System, where events unfold chronologically. Yet time is quite possibly one of the greatest gifts we have been given.
Time gives us a history and a future: joys to reflect on and moments to look forward to. Time means we cannot be overwhelmed with more than we can handle in any given moment. We have the freedom to procrastinate or to push on. Time gives us opportunity to grow in relationship with God and in relationship with others. Time is a teacher and a corrector. It affords us the ability to put right our mistakes when we miss the mark, when we rebel against God, or when we trespass into another’s sovereign territory.
Appreciating the gift that it is, time is not something to be wasted. When we are constantly on the go, we can find ourselves swept up in meaningless activity that serves no Kingdom purpose. But time spent with God clears the way for priorities that are pleasing to Him.
We are bound by the familiarity of time, but God is timeless. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He was, He is, and He will forever be our Light.
Merciful Father, we offer with joy and thanks what you have first given us: our time. Amen.
